L.A.M.E.

You know what I think is lame is when people charge OUTRAGEOUS, yes, big bolded, italic font, capital letters big for freaking shipping. Ok, so I'm a bit of clothes whore. You all know this. If you're new to my blog, my obssession is coming to a halt as of the end of this month. Why I have to give up my pretties, you may ask. It's called student loans aka the financial devil. Anyways, I decided to use every extra penny I have to buying the things I want before I have to actually go on a shopping hiatus for reals this time. Palm on Park tracked down the Paley cardigan for me but were only offering a 30% on a past season item. I was nah, no thanks. Sorry, 140 bucks for a cardigan plus shipping is something not even I could fathom. Evidently, LP went ahead and placed the order and sent the cardigan to Palm on Park. The lovely sales assistant called me back to tell me that LP had actually placed the order when she had told them to not to. She offered me a 50% discount on it. I was like well sure. That means the cardigan in Loopy Lilly, one of my fave Lilly prints, was only 100 bucks.

I went ahead just because 1) you can never have too many cardigans and 2) I love loopy lilly and may never find it again. So, I placed the order. I swear she said 10 bucks shipping. I swear. Because, if she had told me that shipping would be 20 BUCKS for a cardigan, I probably would have been like sorry, no can do. 20 bucks for something that weighs less than a pound. Pssssh, you can just send that standard, thank you very much. So, I was so excited when I got my package in this morning. It was all wrapped up in white tissue paper with pink and green polka dots and attached was a pink heart thank you note. I opened to find my beautiful cardigan, and this receipt:

Description Qty Price EXT PRC
PALEY CARDIGAN 1 $99.00 $99.00 N
PULITZER S D% 50.00
Shipping & Insurance 1 $19.95 $19.95 N
2 Item(s) Subtotal: $118.95
Taxes 0.000% tax: + 0.00
RECEIPT TOTAL: $118.95

I called the store, and the lovely sales assistant was not working today. However, the lady who was working said they charge a flat rate for shipping which is $19.95. I don't care about having it UPS ground unless I specify, send that sh!t standard. Geez!!!!!

Ugh! I absolutely hate that too with a p.a.s.s.i.o.n! Why is shipping so expensive anyway. Are the people getting paid $20/hour. No! I've actually ordered stuff where the shipping was more than my whole order! At least you'll look cute! Love that print:)
Have a great sweets!

First of all, I agree that you can never have too many cardigans! I love that print!

I hate the shipping charges, too. I try to order from places that offer free shipping codes, but of course, none of the Lilly places do that.

I just ordered some shoes from Saks and they were having free shipping and they did not charge me sales tax either, so it was a total score!

Congrats on the house! Saw it on Twitter late last night!

OMG! Similar story, I bought a ton of fall essentials last month from Land's End...like $250 worth because I was in desperate need of them. Ya know how that is, but seriously needed them because I didn't even own a nice black or white cardigan for church. I had one from Gap that was not looking too hot from like 3 years ago. Anyway, I go to checkout and it was like $25 bucks. I thought to myself...When did stores giving you free shipping over a certain dollar amount end? Oh well, suck it up. THEN, after the order was placed, I got an email to my blackberry for FREE shipping on all orders! I was super annoyed! I can feel your pain!

I agree that shipping can be insane! You know what I've only recently learned to do? I use the store phone to order the clothes...no shipping costs! I can't believe that I've been spending that much extra all this time...

Just went through that with J. Crew.... uggghh I hate outrageous shipping charges.

That's crazy. It could have been shipped standard with insurance for less than $5.

J Crew is horrible about that. I tried to order a $30 tshirt that was tissue paper thin and the shipping was $10. Heck no! It would have cost them less than $2. The large companies like that have deals with the shipping companies that get them discounts for doing so much business (I know because I used to work for one).

As for student loans - gag me with a spoon. I hate paying those each month.

I would call Lilly Pulitzer Corporate to complain. Usually the Lilly stores only charge $10 flat fee S&H. Also, if you are a "good" customer, and buy things for say over $100 @ one of the corporate stores, and then they need to order you an item from another store, you usually get free shipping.

Try living here in Australia and ordering from the US. sometimes the shipping is just as much as the item! And you have to wait forever...

I never thought about it in reverse! Its hard enough to get something from Australia in Australia! ha ha

I would feel sorry for you guys for not being able to get Flakes in the US (yum!) but we only got Oreo's a few years ago and you guys have everything else so I'm not going to feel too sorry for you :)

I wouldn't be so sure about the jacked up prices. They just had a news report on the other day that says we are paying more for our grocery items than anywhere else, even when the product comes from Australia. Pissed off but not at all surprised.
As a huge American tv watcher since birth, I have seen many many chocolate bars and such that we don't get here and I knew about Oreo's for a long time and craved them without ever having tasted them. So when I saw them in the supermarket I thought that surely I would be disappointed because how could you build something up in your mind so much and not be let down (sort of like when you wait too long to have sex :) But I have to say they lived up to all my expectations. They are just so delicious. But I can't buy them often because I too often will eat the whole packet and they are turning me into a chunky cow!
