Sharing...

Hmmmm, that's what the blogosphere is about, eh? It's about getting our thoughts out on the screen. Well, the most important thing that has happened this week thus far is A) my Mum's glucose test came back negative for diabetes and B) her scans for her thyroid cancer came back clear for the first time in three years as well as her bloodwork. So double yay!!!!!!!!!!!! That is a huge relief for me to know that my mama is going to be okay:)

While reading one of my fave blogs, Landlocked Mermaid, today, I realized that all people have things that bother them. They seem like HUMONGOUS things to us when others don't even notice....

So, I thought I'd share a couple of tidbits about myself. One, as a young girl and teenager, I would NEVER wear sandals and was so grateful during the sandals and socks trend. I have long, skinny toes. I don't have the second toe that is longer than my big toe. I have three toes (big, second, and third) that are pretty much the same length. So, I have three toes in a row. Ha! And another thing is I have a "beauty mark" on the side of my foot...I always hated my freakishly long toes and said mark, but in all reality who really pays that much attention to my feet. Once I hit college, I wear sandals sans socks proudly:)

And something else, that I feel the whole world stares at, but in all reality doesn't even notice, are my ear buttons. When I was a small child, I had lots of ear infections which lead to having tubes put in. One of my tubes came out late which left a hole in my eardrum, and the tubes left my other eardrum pretty weak and thin. So, needless to say, I've had several surgeries on both ears. While the scars behind my ears from removing tissue to help in repairing my eardrums is not noticeable, I feel that my right button is forever noticeable. When I was a teenager, my second to last surgery did not take. There wasn't any more tissue to take from behind my ears; so, the other option was to use part of my ear button. So, my last surgery repairing my right eardrum was made possible by my right ear button. It's shorter than the left one, but over time, I've learned to live with it. It's something minute when compared to other's problems. Although, sometimes, I'm still that awkward teenager staring out the window wishing she could be in gym or on break with her classmates but cannot because after ear surgery you can't do any physical action for six weeks. So, there I would sit against the window staring out at my peers through the dusty glass....

There are so many things that make us unique.
Wear your sandals proudly.
I wear a compression stocking on my left leg due to DVT. When I first had to wear it I was embarrassed. Now I don't care because the alternative is one I don't really want to think of.
Have a wonderful summer weekend in sandals.

We all have insecurities & quirks about ourselves. We think they're huge, but the world usually doesn't even see them.

On my 14th birthday, I was learning how to drive. We were in the country in a vintage Camero my dad bought for my 16th birthday. The doors weren't latched so when we took a curve, it came open. I fell out & my right ear was cut off. I went through YEARS of reconstructive surgery, but it's still not the same. Seeing the pictures & knowing where the car door hit my head, I'm lucky to be alive so the fact I can't wear earrings doesn't phase me. much.

Enjoy your sandals. I bet your toes are fine!

I'm curious what the post above mine says, ha.

No but really, we all have little things like that that bother us. You are beautiful though. :)

I'm so happy about your Mom, that is such a blessing to hear. I bet there was no sweeter news imaginable than that! I hope you have a wonderful weekend and get to celebrate with her!

Great news about your mom!

I can so relate to this post. My second and third toes on each foot are connected by a small piece of skin which makes them look really short and/or webbed. It used to make me SO self conscious and I actually thought about having surgery to change it. Then last year on a vacation a friend commented on my cute toes and my husband said, "huh, I never even noticed that"!

So, if I can wear sandals you can too! And, I'm sure it's much less noticeable than you think. :)

I randomly found your blog while looking around from my friend's blog and absolutely love this post! You are a southern belle inspiration :) I also have a large birth mark on one of my big toes and have never heard of someone else with one. My mother used to call it my "special toe" when I was young so I never got insecure about it. Wear your sandals proudly, you are a beautiful woman!

What a wonderful post. We are all different in beautiful ways. I remember my mom telling me when I was young that it was arrogant of me to think that people were looking at me so closely...she said that they were too busy worrying that I was seeing their things. I don't know why, but that always stuck with me! Wiggle your toes sweetie ;) They are beautiful.

Hugs,

Dena

Such good news on your mom!!!

You're not alone with the super long toes - my friends and family have lovingly dubbed my toes "baby fingers." They're so long, and then my pinky toes are like little curled up stubs. It's so weird.

I am so so so ecstatic to hear that about your mama! It's a red letter day!

We all have our things we are self conscious about for sure! Mine are my arms. I think they are too fleshy. Even when I cheered, they were never pretty and toned Michelle Obama arms! I am learned to not worry about them too much.

Thank you for sharing this. All of us have things we are insecure about and it's definitely not easy sharing it with the world. I appreciate that you shared these two things with us.

As for the toes, you are not alone! I have fingers for toes and three of my toes are longer than my big toe although you really have to concentrate on my feet to notice it. I've never minded it but I do have other things about my body that annoy me and/or make me insecure.

WOW… you don’t know how much I could relate to this post!!!! I have had ear issues ever since I was little. Had multiple sets of tubes put in and ear drum replacement surgery and reconstruction. I have significant hearing loss in both ears. So boy can I ever relate!!!

And also my toe next to my big toe on my left foot is freakishly longer than the big toe, haha!

But we are fearfully and wonderfully made by God and you are beautiful inside and out!!
