My Big News!!!!!

Here it is.....I turned in my two weeks notice today. One reason I do not talk about my job on my blog is because I work in commercial real estate and commercial lending. I know and see lots and I mean LOTS of things about local businesses and affluent people on a daily basis. And, my boss is seriously the BEST boss in the whole entire world. When I handed in my notice today, he even asked if there was anything he could do to get me to stay, or something he could work out. Sadly, I told him no. He praised the work I've done and told me I'll always have a job here if I want one. It's nice to know that you've done a good job and that your employer thinks highly of your work and of yourself.

When I took the job I'm at now after student teaching, I just wanted to get the heck out of dodge. You see, I'm a coastal girl, not by birth, but by heart. I love Summer, the beach, warm days. I just wanted to get to Florida. My employer has offices in Florida, and that was my plan. And, LC changed all that. Our life is here now. As I've often learned over the past year, you make life plans, and, well, life works it's own self out.

In two weeks, I am embarking on a new journey, and I'm not gonna lie. I'm TERRIFIED. What if I fail, what if I gave up this job to not succeed in the next one, what if I suck, what if I'm making the wrong decisions. What if, what if, what if?!?!?!?!!! Life will work the what ifs out. I feel that God would not have given me this amazing opportunity if He did not want me to take it. So, I'm taking it.

My new job is teaching. I'll be teaching 7th and 8th grade English. So, any teacher readers out there I'd appreciate all suggestions, support, and anything you've got. I have no idea how I should decorate/set up my room, what to do, etc. You can email me at southernbellejm{at}gmail(dot)com

So, that's my big news.

YAY!!! Congratulations!!! That is so awesome!! It's always scary to leave one job for another, it's normal to feel fear and terror at the idea of change. You are going to be fabulous!!
I was in Dollar Tree the other week and they had tons of cute stuff that lent itself towards classroom decoration!

Congratulations! There are many, many teachers in my family, and I know it's such a rewarding career for them. I hope you have a wonderful time with your students.

My cousin teaches English and often decorates his room with pictures of the places books they study are set in and his students seem to love it. I know he and my aunts also have bookmarked a ton of sites with classroom ideas. If you google "teacher ideas", a bunch of them will come up. Good luck!

YAY! That's so exciting!! I teach 1st grade...not that same as 7th and 8th BUT teaching none the less. Proteacher.org is a great website. The best thing is to keep organized. If you're organized, your students will be also. Have them in a seating chart to begin with and routine is very important to help with behavior problems. Also, be mean the first 4-6wks. Set your bounderies or they will walk all over you. You're not their friend. You can be nice later. But they need to know you're the boss! There's so much I could tell you. If you have any questions let me know!! I will be glad to help. A lot of teaching ideas/tips can work for any age range. GOOD LUCK!!

That is so awesome! Teachers make such an impression on children's lives - you're going to be great at it :-) Making a career switch is stressful, but can be the best decision of your life. When I switched to nursing, I knew from day one that it was one of the best choices {aside from marrying my husband!} that I had ever made. Can't wait to hear more about your new adventure! So exciting!

Congrats on your teaching job! I just stumbled across you blog. All my teaching experience is elementary so I don't think it will help you out too much! My advice is classroom management is key. Establish the rules early because it is a lot easier to be strict and ease off than the other way around. Especially in middle school, I'm sure they will test their boundaries. Best wishes! Can't wait to hear your stories!

Congrats on your teaching position! I'm a new reader (and just requested to follow you on Twitter). I am getting ready to start my fourth year of teaching fourth grade. Teaching is not a job...it's a lifestyle! I'm sure you will be great and I'm around for any questions, support, etc. :) Just think how much fun you'll have setting up your room (totally the best part of the year)!
