Soundtrack of My Summer...

You know I'm such a music person. It's as simple as a song that can take me back to a place and moment in time. I bought John Mayer's new album Born and Raised. It's not my favorite by him, but it's growing on me.  For some reason, it reminds me more of a folk-driven sound, very different for him. You know lately I've been kind of down. I'm getting older [insert crow's feet, frown lines here], melasma making me feel self-conscious, and not making the $$ I thought I would be when I had that "life plan" idea back after graduating undergrad. Life just gets so busy. I miss chasing the dawn, nights out with friends, no responsibilities, buying concert tickets the night before and going the next day to drive all the way to St. Louis for a Dave Matthews show, they way my face looked 10 years ago and living life like there's no tomorrow.

This song just kind of describes how I feel right now.

Born and Raised
Now and then I pace my place
I can't retrace how I got here
I cheat the light to check my face
It's slightly harder than last year

CHORUS
Then all at once it gets hard to take
It gets hard to fake what I won't be
Cause one of these days I'll be born and raised
And it's such a waste to grow up lonely

I still have dreams, they're not the same
They don't fly as high as they used to
I saw my friend, he's in my head
And he said, "You don't remember me, do you?"

CHORUS
Then all at once it gets hard to take
It gets hard to fake what I won't be
Cause one of these days I'll be born and raised
And it's such a waste to grow up lonely

I still got time, I still got faith
I call on both of my brothers
I got a mom, I got a dad
But they do not have each other

CHORUS
So ride on up, take your place
And show your face to the morning
Cause one of these days you'll be born and raised
And it all comes on without warning

I guess in my twenties I never imagined really growing up. Being "born and raised" really never crossed my mind. Being grown up was somewhere back in the distant filing cabinet of my brain not to be pondered on much that is, until it actually happened. And it all came on with out warning...

You're young! I've got your same issues. I felt like you were describing me to a T. Maybe not the concert thing, but planning fun things at the last minute! I always look back and think of things I'm glad I'm not doing, like being in school, writing papers, taking tests, yuck! Be thankful you've got a husband that loves you, and think of all the fun things y'all get to do together, being young or old! Youre gorgeous girl. Heading now to check out JM's new album. Thanks!
