Spontaneous Combustion

Seriously, I am about to burst. Literally. I was an English lit major, and I love all the things people hate to read. You know the stuff they forced down your throats in high school to where you found yourself diving in Cliff's Notes to tread above water. Not this girl. I relish it. I love it. I. CANNOT. GET. ENOUGH. First, The Great Gatsby which I posted about a couple of weeks ago is coming out around Christmas. Then [actually before GG], here's my kicker...Anna Karenina.  I think it's set to release in November; however, don't quote me on that. Seriously, AK is probably one of if not my number one favorite book of all time. Ok, ladies, you need to start reading this now. It's longer than say 50 Shades of Grey, but it's so worth it. It's wonderful, heartbreaking, melancholy, page-turning, and everything a book should be tied into one. If truth be told, the name Anna is part of my number one baby name if we are blessed enough to have a baby and a girl, at that. PS-LC hates the name. are all men like this about baby names?

Plot summary from amazon.com
Anna Karenina tells of the doomed love affair between the sensuous and rebellious Anna and the dashing officer, Count Vronsky. Tragedy unfolds as Anna rejects her passionless marriage and must endure the hypocrisies of society. Set against a vast and richly textured canvas of nineteenth-century Russia, the novel's seven major characters create a dynamic imbalance, playing out the contrasts of city and country life and all the variations on love and family happiness.

Personally, I think we can all relate to this book even in today's times. Infidelity, money, happiness, family, social status...it's got it all. Plus, I feel the first line in the novel totally sucks you in, "All happy families are alike; each unhappy family is unhappy in its own way." I think this line is so poignant! It has that same stage-setting punch that Pride and Prejudice's first line does as well. As soon as a trailer's up; I'll post it:)

The movie looks great! I was an English major (and English teacher for three years), so I totally feel you on the resistance!

Oh! How exciting about AK!!

I'm living in Australia and soooo wanted to pop down to Sydney to catch 'The Gatsby' filming.... sadly, will be waiting till Christmas instead. But super pumped about the possibilities of some decent film versions of these classics! : )

We had to read AK in tenth grade, and I will never forget a kid in my class who didn't read the book and then proceded to write an essay about Anna and Vronsky's son...when they had a daughter. It still makes me giggle to this day!
