Whoever thought self-control could be so hard?

Literally, my desk was covered in paperwork yesterday. It was a deal we'd been working on since February that finally closed. And, I ,being the assistant, get to put all the paperwork together. Yay! [insert sarcasm here]These are the days when I wish I was teaching kids fun things about English or History instead of being cooped up in an office behind my desk buried in paperwork. Not fun, but I am thankful I have a job in these hard times. Still I digress....*sigh*
It has been so hard to be on a shopping hiatus even though I only went on hiatus starting yesterday. Yesterday, I saw these beautiful green amethyst and diamond earrings on smartbargains.com. It was take an extra 19% off and free shipping. Seriously, it was so hard to let these babies go. This is going to take much more control than I originally thought. I had these in the shopping cart, proceeded to checkout, but ultimately told myself, "NO". I have jewelry, I don't need these earrings; I just want these earrings. From now on, I have decided that I have to distinguish the difference b/t "want" and "need". Like I have holes coming through the soles of my Target ballet flats that I wear to work ALL the time. They are just so broke in and comfy that I am trying to get the most life out of them possible. I think they have oh about 1 1/2 weeks tops to live. Now, that means I NEED new shoes not that I want them because I don't have any other black appropriate work shoes. I'm off to a good start, eh?

Oh the shopping hiatus. I go through periods where I am really good, and then periods where I just buy what I want when I want...

I've found for my really good periods that I have to unsubscribe from all shopping related emails... because if a deal that is "just too good to pass up" lands in my inbox, well I just won't pass it up!

Good job not buying the earrings, and totally relish and enjoy the shopping for the shoes you need! Hang in there, it gets easier!

Next time you find yourself wishing for those moments of teaching fun things in English, remember all of the planning teaching entails, along with all of the interventions, and testing, and parents, and paperwork that comes with teaching! There are many moments I find myself wishing I was back in an office...

Good luck with the shopping hiatus. You are a better woman than me.
