Funny Things Kids Say...

I have to share this hilarious question one of my students asked the last week. I was teaching them about primary (first hand accounts---i.e. letters written during the civil war, photographs of the civil war, etc.) and secondary sources (second hand info---i.e. encyclopedias, textbooks, etc.) And, we were also talking about the reliability of the sources.

They were doing a sort on the Civil War. This is an activity where they had to cut out these strips of paper with sources on them, and they had to sort them into primary and secondary piles. Once they were sorted, we then sorted the items in each category as far as reliability.

One of my students raises his/her hand and asks, "Were Martin Luther and Abraham Lincoln both fighting for the same thing?" I replied well, sort of. Then, she proceeds to ask me, "Were Abraham Lincoln and Martin Luther King friends?" Oh Lord, I shouldn't have laughed, but I couldn't help it. I politely explained that MLK died in the 1960s and that Honest Abe died in the 1860s. So, they couldn't have been friends, but maybe, just maybe, they're friends right now---IN HEAVEN since they are you know a hundred years apart from each other. I assume heaven doesn't have an age limit on besties.

I just thought it was funny and wanted to share....

This reminds me of one of my favorite quotes from the internet!

Abraham Lincoln once said "The thing about quotes on the internet is that you cannot confirm their validity."
